Castaic Lake rose to 85 percent of its storage capacity, and water temperatures dropped into the upper sixties and low seventies. Anglers reported a shift in fish behavior, but excellent fishing continued throughout the week. Largemouth and smallmouth bass chased bait in the coves for most of the day, with topwater walking baits producing the best action. Small shad-colored finesse baits worked in 10 to 30 feet of water and put plenty of bass in the boat. Striped bass also moved into the coves, feeding along the shorelines and out toward the middle, and Lucky Craft Gunfish and other white topwater lures brought in fish from three to seven pounds. Catfish anglers found good results near the West Ramp using cut sardines, chicken liver, and dip bait.
