Current Water Conditions
With the recent precipitation, flows on the Truckee River right now are slightly higher than normal for the winter season—holding around 76 CFS out of Tahoe City, 220 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 503 CFS at Farad. The bite is slower this time of year, but can still be rewarding for anyone wanting to make the trek in the colder weather.
Water Temperatures
Water temperatures are around 40-45 degrees, depending on the time of day you fish.
Hatches
No specific hatches to report, but anglers should use tiny dries if they are dry fly fishing. Blue winged olives, winter stones, gray drakes and small caddis are good bets.
Effective Tactics
Indicator fishing through the slow pools for best results, or swing leeches. Use small flies for dry fly fishing. The best time for dry fly fishing is from 11am-2pm. Remember, until April 22nd, there is a no bait, no kill policy. Anglers must catch and release all fish.
Catch Report
Anglers are not seeing a strong bite throughout the day. It can be upwards of 3 to 4 fish per day. Mostly rainbows are being caught in the canyon area with not many brown trout being reported.
