Water temperatures this week are sitting at 65F. Comins Lake has received a total 5,210 rainbow trout averaging 9.2 inches and 7,061 brown trout averaging 9.3 inches. A total of 2,490 tiger trout were also stocked this spring averaging 9.7 inches in length. Shoreline fishing has produced mostly stocker-size rainbow trout and some tiger trout. There are still plenty of trout over 16 inches available, but the spring stocking has diluted their numbers. Trout are being caught on a variety of gear, including nightcrawlers, PowerBait, spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, and Panther Martins), as well as wet flies behind a bubble.

Largemouth bass activity has picked up nicely in recent weeks, with the best fishing at the south end of the lake. Weeds are starting to take over, making access to the very south end of the lake difficult. Expect to catch 11-to-13-inch largemouth bass. A variety of lures are being used to catch bass. Try shallow retrieving Rapalas, soft plastics, and some poppers. Fishing for bass in the north lake has been slower but should pick up as temps increase.

Northern pike have been more active recently, with fish ranging from 14 inches to 24 inches caught and several over 30 inches observed. Anglers looking to pursue northern pike should use flashy lures, RatL traps, and lures resembling trout, bass, and bluegill that can be cast or trolled.

There is a limited bluegill fishery at Comins Lake, and anglers are encouraged to release bluegill to better establish their population.
