"It was rough weather when we left," said Searcher skipper Kevin Ward at the Fisherman's Landing dock September 16. "So we went south, and found good action at Cedros Island."

Jerry Jellset of Temecula won first place on the trip, for a 25.8-pound yellowtail he caught with a Salas 6X Jr. jig in scrambled eggs color. He said he used 40-pound Big Game line on a Torium 40 reel and a six-foot Roddy Rod.

Jim Marshall of Jackson won second place for a 25.4-pounder, and Rick Lalama of San Diego won third place for a 24.6-pound yellowtail.
