Johnson Reservoir near Fremont, Utah, offers a unique opportunity to target tiger muskie in a scenic mountain setting. This 250-acre reservoir, located just north of Fish Lake, is one of a handful of Utah waters managed specifically for these apex predators, along with populations of splake and cutthroat trout.
Tiger muskie are stocked annually and grow large—fish over 40 inches are not uncommon. These aggressive predators require large lures and patience; anglers have success with swimbaits, jerkbaits, and oversized spinners. The best fishing occurs in early summer and fall when muskie move into shallower water.
Splake and cutthroat trout provide consistent secondary opportunities. Trolling and casting spoons, crankbaits, or jigging can yield solid results, especially in deeper water for splake and near the inlet for cutthroats. Fly anglers do well using streamers and sinking lines.
Access is available along the dam and from small watercraft. Primitive camping is available, and ice fishing is viable in winter.
