Spring in the central Uinta Basin is a turbulent time, and spring storms bring the possibility of snow, rain, thunderstorms or high winds. Heavy clay areas tend to be very muddy and difficult to traverse. Spring melts open up the lake to fishing. Early year spawning species will be actively nesting in shallow areas. As the year progresses, fry will be plentiful in warmwater bays and shallow pools. May is a great time to target largemouth bass and also bowfish for common carp. Largemouth will be looking for areas to spawn and find cover for smaller bass. On warm days, carp are cruising the shallows and can be easily bowfished by wading around in warmer, shallow waters. The DWR began stocking channel catfish into Brough in 2024. These fish were between 1-8 pounds and can be caught using the same methods as used on the Green River. We hope to see natural reproduction and provide a unique opportunity for catching catfish in a reservoir setting. Please do your part and pick up after yourself and others as this is not a state park, WMA or state land where active cleanup occurs.
