Yep, it's me—out on a river boat run, and this time, without a fish. This time of year, fishing can be hit or miss. Not everyone lands the fish they're targeting. Some days are slow, and others are great. The fish move around and will often circle back, so it’s all about finding that right spot.
Backwaters are great areas where the stripers like to hang out. I always say: keep the smaller ones so the big ones can grow. There's a lot of fish in this area, and shore fishing in the lower water can produce some great catches.
For stripers, anchovies are a go-to bait. Some anglers also like to experiment with other options like squid, shrimp, sardines, mackerel, or even live bait—though you'll have to catch that yourself. But hands down, anchovies have caught more fish than anything else when it comes to bait fishing.
Personally, I like using swimbaits—they keep things more active. And as you’ve probably seen in photos, a lot of anglers are having great success using lures. It's really just about what you prefer.
The shoreline below Davis Dam has some awesome fishing spots. On the Nevada side, near the casinos and Community Park, stripers and rainbow trout are commonly caught. Rotary Park is another solid choice—anglers do well along various parts of that shoreline.
Hope this helps out a bit. We’re looking forward to seeing you and hearing about your catch! We're your official weigh station.
Thanks for all the support—
Now go catch a fish!
