Upper
Flows are perfect for fishing. The water is off color at Old Rocky Ford.
Dry fly fishing is excellent for brook trout near the Deep Creek confluence. Best fishing for Redband Trout is below the old Rocky Ford crossing. Yellow sally stoneflies and tiny yellow mayflies were on the river. The giant Hex hatch has started. Hex hatch at dark typically at 930 pm. Large yellow dry flies can work well. Tie something you can see.
Sand Creek and Yamsi Ranches offer exceptional pay to fish operations.
Lower
Flows have dropped and the river is very fishable. Redband Trout are moving in from Upper Klamath and Agency Lake as well as the Link River, Lake Ewauna and Klamath River.
The yellow sally stonefly hatch is waning at the ODFW boat ramp and downstream but the fish are really looking for them now. These small yellow stoneflies are most active from 7-9 pm. Lots of other insects are hatching as well including golden stoneflies, Epeorus mayflies, PMD mayflies, and white miller caddisflies. The large Hex mayfly is hatching with the best areas below highway and below Modoc Point Road. These are the largest mayfly in Oregon and hatch at dark.
Most of the catch is 8 to 14 inch Redband Trout but bigger Redband Trout are moving in from the lake. These bigger trout will take large leech, streamer and wooly bigger patterns as well as lures mimicking minnows.
