Fishing has gotten a little tougher

East Walker River

The flows on the East are at about 142 today. The fishing has gotten a little tougher this past week though it’s still decent in the mornings and evenings. Early in the day there’s been some pretty good streamer action with sculpzilla, ziwi, dead drift crayfish and Dali Lama patterns, as the morning wears on anglers are switching to nymphs like perdigons, zebra midge, flashback emerger, rainbow warrior and copper John. From around 10 or 11 to 5 or 6 is the time of day to leave the river alone then from 5 or 6 on the dry/dropper action as well as nymphing has been pretty good, then as the sun goes down there has been some good dry action with caddis dries. We’ll likely have another month or so of warmer weather before things start to cool down again so this morning and evening fishing will be the best way to go for a while.
