The Fall has been fishing well with steady surface and subsurface opportunities. Trout are feeding actively on midges, PMDs, and caddis, and the mix of flies you’ll want covers a wide range. Subsurface, San Juan Worms, mini jig leeches, and Zebra Midges in sizes 16–20 (black, red, or purple) are moving fish consistently. The new Fulling Mill balanced scud has also been a useful option in deeper pools.
On top, fish are showing interest in Stillborn Midges, Purple Haze, and smaller Chubbies, especially during the morning and evening hatches when light is softer. Midday can still produce if you adjust to shaded runs or foam lines where fish are holding tight.
If things slow down, don’t hesitate to go deeper—balanced leeches under an indicator or a stripped mini leech through structure have been pulling bigger trout. With recent stockings and plenty of bugs in the system, the Fall is in excellent shape for technical sight fishing and a mix of dry, nymph, and streamer work this week.
