Lake Isabella has dipped slightly to 40 percent of capacity, with water temperatures holding around 80 degrees. Crappie fishing has been excellent in 5 to 20 feet of water near structure, with anglers finding good numbers of slabs on live shiners and crappie jigs. The bite has been strong both shallow and deeper, with super small dagger-style mini jigs, Indian crickets, Get Bent Baits, and 2-inch Keitechs working in a variety of colors, though the productive colors and depths have been changing daily. Red’s Marina, the North Fork trees, and the cages around Kissack Cove have been consistent areas. Bass are showing in great numbers, though size has been mixed. Anglers are having success dropshotting 6-inch Roboworms in 15 to 25 feet of water, along with Senkos in shad patterns. The North Fork around rocks and trees has been productive, with some better fish showing at Rocky Point. Early mornings are bringing good topwater action on prop baits, Whopper Ploppers, and Spooks, while later in the day the bite has shifted to points down to 20 feet with 8-inch oxblood or purple worms. Reaction and finesse bites have both been hot, and while bigger bass are less frequent, tossing large swimbaits has been the best bet for a quality fish, although even smaller bass have been chewing on them. Catfish are showing later in the day and into the evening on SSS dip bait, frozen shad, and nightcrawlers. Trout anglers are finding fish near the North Fork with floating baits, while boaters working deeper near the dam have been doing well trolling Tasmanian Devils, Needlefish, and Flicker Shad.
