NEW turkey hunting opportunity: Now through February 28, 2026, hunters may obtain a beardless turkey permit to allow the harvest of three hen wild turkeys or turkeys without a visible beard. Best bets for weekend fishing:
In some exciting news for anglers, wild coho seasons have been extended in the Alsea, Siletz and Yaquina Rivers. Check in season regulations for dates. Fall Chinook is also open on the Mid-coast. Check water levels on the Salmon, Siletz, Yaquina, Alsea, Yachats, and Siuslaw. Fishing remains fair overall with fish being caught in most of our basins.
Fall is great time to fish the Crooked and Metolius Rivers and steelhead anglers have been doing well on the lower Deschutes all the way up to Mecca Flat.
Reports of good dry fly action in the mornings lately on the lower Deschutes between Maupin and Warm Springs. Nymphing has been consistent as well.
Anglers report excellent fall fly fishing for bass at Davis Lake.
These examples are for demonstration purposes only. Refer to the zone reports for more details and possibilities.
Klamath River Basin: These are exciting times for the Klamath River as salmon return after four hydroelectric dams were removed! Anglers are reminded that all salmon fishing remains closed in the Oregon portion of the Klamath River Basin to support salmon recovery. Other regulations in place will help protect salmon as they return: Spencer Creek closed to fishing early this year (Sept. 30 rather than Oct. 31) to protect spawning Chinook. Other Klamath River tributaries (Williamson, Wood, Sprague) are routinely closed to all angling Nov. 1–May 21 to protect spawning redband trout and these closures will offer additional protection for returning salmon.
Hunter Education:
Hunter safety courses and field days are offered in-person or online, with an in-person field day. Find a course in your area and get a jump on it for the 2026 season!
For adults: Waterfowl workshops and events are happening in your area. Learn new tips & techniques and bring a friend! ODFW classes and workshops run statewide, throughout the year, designed for adults 18 and older. Take advantage of future learning opportunities.
