The Metolius continues to offer some of the most dependable fishing in Central Oregon. Cold, consistent flows have kept water conditions ideal, and fish remain well distributed throughout the system.
Afternoon hatches continue to be led by PMDs, bringing steady surface activity across much of the river. While the Green Drake emergence has slowed, a few bugs are still around, and evening caddis continue to draw fish to the surface as daylight fades. Yellow Sallies and the occasional BWO round out the menu and can keep fish looking up throughout the day.
Consistent drifts remain the key to success while fishing subsurface. Smaller mayfly nymphs, caddis pupa, Perdigons, Zebra Midges, and Golden Stone patterns are all good bets, especially when worked through the river's deeper slots and current transitions. Anglers chasing bull trout are continuing to find opportunities by covering water with larger articulated streamers around deeper pools and woody structure.
