Lake Isabella has dropped slightly to 41 percent of capacity, and the water temperatures are holding around 80 degrees. Bass action is excellent, with anglers connecting on dropshot 6-inch Roboworms in 15 to 25 feet of water, along with Senkos in shad colors. The North Fork has been most productive around rocks and trees, and some better fish are showing at Rocky Point. Early mornings have been good for topwater with prop baits, Whopper Ploppers, and Spooks, while later in the day anglers are working points down to 20 feet with 8-inch oxblood or purple worms. Crappie fishing has been excellent in 5 to 20 feet of water near structure. Anglers have been finding slabs on live shiners and crappie jigs. Catfish action has picked up this week with solid reports coming from the Dam and Camp 9, where SSS dip bait, shad, and mackerel have all been producing. Some trout anglers soaking floating baits have also reported catfish as bycatch. Trout fishing itself has been very good, with limit-style action near the North Fork on floating baits, and trolling with Tasmanian Devils, Needlefish, and Flicker Shad near the dam has been productive as well.
