Lake Isabella continues to produce excellent fishing as summer settles in. The lake is currently sitting at 57% capacity. Bass fishing remains outstanding, particularly from the North Fork down to the Cemetery area, where fish are holding in 3 to 15 feet of water. Anglers are finding success with a variety of presentations, including shad-pattern crankbaits, jerkbaits, flukes, spinnerbaits, and Senkos in watermelon red and shad colors. Jigs and craw-style plastics worked around rocky structure and boulder fields continue to put fish in the boat, while chatterbaits and large swimbaits are triggering aggressive reaction bites, especially during the early morning and late afternoon hours. Crappie action has also been steady, with schools of fish suspended in 20 to 30 feet of water around submerged brush piles and docks. Mini-jigs, small swimbaits, and live shiners have all been effective. Catfish activity has improved during the evening and overnight hours, with the Lime Dyke and several deep coves producing good catches on cut bait, nightcrawlers, chicken liver, and clams. Trout anglers are still picking up fish during the early morning hours near the Cemetery and North Fork areas while fishing PowerBait, spoons, and nightcrawlers.
