The Lower Deschutes has settled into a dependable midsummer rhythm, with consistent flows and action throughout the canyon. Fish are spreading across broken pocket water, mid-river ledges, and deeper buckets during the cooler hours before sliding into softer current and shaded structure as the day warms.

Evening remains the highlight of the day as caddis activity builds across the river, while PMDs continue to offer dependable dry fly opportunities through the afternoon. Staying on the river through the final hours of daylight has continued to reward anglers with consistent dry fly opportunities. 

Subsurface fishing continues to account for the majority of hookups. Large stonefly nymphs paired with smaller caddis or PMD nymphs remain a dependable combination, while jig-style mayfly patterns and Perdigons continue to produce fish in faster water. Anglers finding more success are adjusting depth, improving drift, and targeting the transition water between riffles and deeper holding lies where trout are feeding consistently.
