Castaic fell to 92% of its storage capacity, and water temperatures remained near 80 degrees. Fishing has been excellent, especially for bass. Anglers found surface feeding bass throughout the lake from 6am to 10am. Just about any topwater bait saw some action, but walking baits, poppers, and Flukes seemed to get the most attention. After 10am, anglers found biting bass on points, bluff walls, and over rocky structure in 10 to 25 feet of water. Drop shot, Carolina rigs, and Senkos fooled plenty of one-to-two-pound bass with natural shad as the top producing color. Striped bass boiled early in the ski arm with the buoy line and Kong Island consistently producing. Espetits, Lucky Craft Sammys, spoons, and Flukes all got bites. The striped bass sunk out quickly after boats approached.
