Castaic Lake rose slightly to 95% of its storage capacity, and fishing has been excellent. Water temperatures were in the upper 70s. Topwater action for largemouth and smallmouth bass was outstanding until mid-morning, with Espetits, Riser baits, and Gunfish producing explosive strikes. Flukes and spoons also performed well. Subsurface techniques like drop shot, Carolina rigs, and shaky heads were effective on main lake points and bluff walls, especially in shad, brown, and dark green colors. Weightless Senkos accounted for plenty of catches as well. Striped bass responded to the same topwater baits as the bass, with many fish in the 5-pound range. Shore anglers found steady catfish action using dip bait and chicken liver on Carolina rigs.
