The Upper Kern River continues to see regular trout plants by the CDFW. Fishing has been productive throughout the 20-mile stretch, offering opportunities for both stocked and wild trout. Anglers using light spinning setups are finding success with split-shot salmon eggs, crickets, and Panther Martin spinners. Fly anglers are also getting in on the action, using attractor nymphs, streamers, and dry flies during the late afternoon hatches. On the Lower Kern, Section 3—from Sandy Flat to Isabella Dam—is scheduled to be stocked the week of June 29th. Trout are still being caught on split-shotted salmon eggs, chartreuse garlic Powerbait, and small spinners. In addition to trout, bass are active and responding well to soft plastics, jigs, and small crankbaits. Catfish are also showing up, especially on cut baits and nightcrawlers. As of the latest update, the Upper Kern was flowing at 863 CFS, while the Lower Kern was moving at 1657 CFS.
