Lake Isabella held steady this week at 31 percent of capacity, and the bass bite stayed strong. Several fish over 5 pounds were reported, along with a few breaking the double-digit mark. Texas-rigged worms, crankbaits, jigs, and swimbaits continue to produce quality bass, with the best results coming from Rocky Point, Piney Point, and the flume in 15 to 25 feet of water. The crappie bite remains fair but has slowed somewhat, and anglers are having to put in more effort to get bit. Crappie are still being caught around Reds and French Gulch marinas on mini jigs and small shiners. Catfish action has tapered with the cooler temperatures, though some are still being caught on SSS dip bait, shad, and cut mackerel. Trout fishing has really started to pick up across the lake, with anglers finding success using nightcrawlers and trout jigs. The CDFW has a trout plant scheduled for this week, which should keep the action going strong.
