Bass have been active during the early morning and late evening hours, with anglers finding success using crankbaits, jerkbaits, jigs, and shad-pattern plastics on drop-shot rigs. The Bakersfield Firefighters’ 13th Annual Trout Derby and Pancake Breakfast is set for November 22, 2025. More than a thousand pounds of Lightning and Rainbow Trout, some reaching up to 5 pounds, will be stocked for the event. The angler who catches the lowest-numbered tagged trout will win a $1,000 prize. Bluegill remain active at both lakes, with wax worms and red worms continuing to be the most productive baits.
