Trout have been stocked in the Upper Kern over the past few weeks, and the CDFW is scheduled to stock the entire 20-mile stretch again next week. Anglers are finding success with Sick Jigs in various colors, pinched crawlers, and salmon eggs. Fly anglers have also been doing well using nymphs and dry-dropper combos throughout the 20-mile section. The upcoming trout stocking will include the flowing sections: Section 4 (Riverside Park in Kernville to Powerhouse #3), Section 5 (Fairview Dam to Lazy River Lodge), and Section 6 (Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge). On the Lower Kern, the bass bite remains solid with crankbaits, jigs, and spinners producing fish. Catfish action continues on dip baits, nightcrawlers, and cut baits. As of this report, the Upper Kern River was flowing at 329 CFS, while the Lower Kern was running at 1,165 CFS.
