Recent rain has fluctuated the river flow but has since leveled. The Upper Kern has been hit-or-miss depending on the angler. Fly fishers are finding steady action in the afternoons on caddis, while those working the 20-mile stretch are doing well with salmon eggs, crickets, and worms. With colder water temperatures, the fish are a bit more sluggish overall. The Upper Kern received a stocking this week in Section 4, from Powerhouse #3 down to Riverside Park in Kernville. On the Lower Kern, the bass bite remains consistent on crankbaits, jigs, and spinners. Catfish are showing on dip baits, nightcrawlers, and cut baits. At the time of this report, flows were 433 CFS on the Upper Kern and 413 CFS on the Lower Kern.
