The Taft Chamber of Commerce Trout Derby unfolded under steady rain, but Bakersfield’s anglers refused to stay home. Instead, they worked the shoreline and hauled in 1–5 pound rainbow trout with flashes of lightning trout lighting up the day. Powerbait in every color, mini jigs, Mice Tails, Thomas Bouyants, and small tube baits all drew hard strikes. Bass anglers who pushed through the rain throughout the week were rewarded with a handful of heavy swimbait fish. Green pumpkin Senkos and fire tiger crankbaits continued to produce as usual. Only a trickle of reports surfaced for other species.
